2j & Friends
2J & FRIENDS are a group of ex-patriots, former residents of the
village of “John John,” an enclave of East Port of Spain, in
Trinidad and Tobago. This is where the original carnival was born
and the national instrument the steelpan was created.
2J & FRIENDS, a community organization began over 15 years ago in Brooklyn under the leadership of Kendell M. Julien.
He has been uniting the individuals from their former home in their new home. Here are a few of our significant annual events. 2J & FRIENDS J'ouvert band has been the Brooklyn's J'ouvert Band of the year for 2022, 2023 & 2025. "John John Day" Community Day every 2nd Sunday in July. The inspiration for many local groups to host similar events. Annual Thanksgiving every January. Collaborations with like-minded organizations such as JouvayFest Collective, Philly Pan Stars, and many others. Various Celebrations and events engaging our many volunteers and supporters. International group travel.
